
Irvin is passionate about writing and education. Originally from New Orleans, he now calls Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn home. He has earned degrees from Morehouse College, Morgan State University, and The New School University where he studied English, Education, and Creative Writing. He has worked in education since 2003 and lectures at Hunter College and Queensborough Community College. Irvin has published biographies of John Biggers, John Bruce, and Robert Smith in Notable Black American Men Book II. He has also written for The Atlantic, The Root, EBONY, Afropunk, Edutopia, EdSurge and other media outlets. A book examining the Black literary palate and other musings on race, literature, and culture is his current project.
