Black Canada Talking™ is a live online event that provides Black Canadians opportunity to give their takes and POVs on stories that are of importance to them.
On a recent episode of Black Canada Talking™ , our guest was Cesar Ndema-Moussa.
During the show, Cesar talked about:
Ottawa youth exploitation program gets funding boost
Cesar, president of North South Development/Roots and Culture Canada, highlights the “It’s a Trap” initiative. The program, which recently received $162,000 in funding (8:09), focuses on mentorship and early intervention to steer youth away from crime, gangs, and digital exploitation. Cesar emphasizes that the program aims for generational impact rather than just reaching a quota of kids.
Did France and the Vatican Acknowledge Slavery?
The hosts discuss the French National Assembly’s decision to repeal the Code Noir, a 17th-century law that classified enslaved people as property. Cesar critiques the long delay in this repeal compared to the speed with which France rejected the Vichy laws. Additionally, he addresses Pope Leo XIV’s apology for the church’s historical role in slavery, acknowledging it as a significant step while remaining critical of the institution’s past complicity.
Trump and the destruction of American democracy: What’s happening?
The final segment focuses on the state of American politics under Donald Trump. Cesar argues that Trump’s influence represents a long-term turning point for democracy rather than a temporary crisis. He expresses concern over the erosion of institutional norms, the spread of corruption, and the global implications of American instability on marginalized communities.
