Rep. Elijah Cummings was “a public servant who toiled to guarantee the least of us have the same opportunities,” former President Barack Obama said at the late Maryland congressman’s funeral on Oct. 25. Obama remembered Cummings as “a man of noble and good heart” who challenged others to take up his work. “It falls upon each of us to give voice to the voiceless and comfort to the sick and opportunity to those not born to it and to preserve and nurture our democracy,” the former president said.
