Pastor Jomo K. Johnson

Pastor Jomo J. Johnson

Pastor Jomo K. Johnson is originally from Columbus, Georgia. For the last two years, Jomo has been the head pastor at Philly Open Air Church. He has just written a book titled, “Call Tyrone: Why Black Women Should Remain Single Or…”

We recently had the opportunity to speak with Pastor Johnson about “Call Tyrone: Why Black Women Should Remain Single Or…”.

During our discussion, Pastor Johnson discussed various aspects of his book including where did the title of the book come from, how 70% of all African American marriages end in divorce, why he feels that there is a high number of single African American women – why are the reasons for this high number, why he feels that a number of Black men are suffering from an identity crisis and “victimhood” mentality.

As we continue our discussion, Pastor Johnson talks about how he feels that there is nothing wrong with being single or dating outside of race or nationality, that the African American church is not doing a great job addressing singleness, the pain that he experienced interviewing his mother for the book, the reaction of the book from Black men and Black women, what he wants the book to accomplish and his call to African American men and women.
